Many of the paintings displayed on this page are for sale.

Some can be purchased via the gallery named - they will be more than happy to satisfy any enquiries you have - whilst others can be purchased directly from the artist.

If you have an interest with any of the paintings please contact David Young who will be pleased to help you with any questions you have.

To purchase a David Young original is a big decision, though hopefully a very satisfying one that will last generations, so the artist not only wants the painting to go to a 'good home' but also to ensure the new owner is completely happy with their new picture.

The River Taw below Belstone paintings by David William Young

The River Taw below Belstone

Sold  Oil painting by David William Young.

  Size 420’ X 20’’

The title to this painting is  little misleading as the river only takes a small part in the picture and Belstone is up the hill out of sight.

The real focus of this painting are the wonderfully distorted shapes of the trees and the luxuriant coat of mosses that shroud the granite boulders in this damp atmosphere.

The Eternal Summer

(Skinny dipping on the Dart) size 40’’ X 24’’

For Sale  Oil painting by David William Young.

I came round the bend and saw a group of people sitting in the sun by the river. The contrast between these naked apes and the green, verdant landscape was striking if not shocking.

Their relaxed manner took me back to my teenage years when failing exams didn’t seem the end of the world. A time when the summers really where hot and long  and being rural kids made our own entertainment in a succession of parties in village halls to the great outdoors.

This painting brings together many of the aspects of my teenage years. My environment, my friends, the girls and FUN!

Ten Tors

Dartmoor

Sold Oil Painting by David W Young

Size  40 X 20 inches

I have just completed a major oil painting of Dartmoor entitled 'Ten Tors'. The painting includes, as the title suggests, ten of Dartmoors Tors. These are Holwell Tor, Hay Tor, Saddle Tor, Rippon Tor, Top Tor, Pil Tor, Hollow Tor, Bonehill, Bell Tor and finally Chinkwell Tor from which I painted the view.

The River Meavy, Norsworthy, Burrator, Dartmoor
Sold Oil painting by David William Young.

Size 40" X 30"

Tumbling down from the higher Moor, the peaty waters of the River Meavy flow through granite strewn woodland before entering the Reservoir at Burrator.

In this painting I have captured the mosses and lichens that cover both the granite boulders and deciduous trees due to the heavy rainfall and moist atmosphere of this valley on Dartmoor.

The Moorland Oak, Dartmoor

For sale Oil painting by David William Young.

Size 40" X 20"

On the flanks of the Dart valley the upland fields drop down to the valley floor. Ancient stone walls of granite divide the fields with the occasional tree, such as this old oak, growing up beside the granite.

I have painted this oak almost as I would paint the granite - in tone and texture they are so similar - reflecting the harsh environment.

In the distance can be seen Yar Tor.

Grimspound, Dartmoor

Sold  Oil painting by David William Young.

Size 40’’ X 20’’

Grimspound is a bronze age village on the eastern side of Dartmoor. Surrounded by a granite wall called a ‘pound’ to safely contain livestock, it was believed to number at least twenty four thatched granite round houses. The one depicted in the foreground by the artist is a particularly good

example - its entrance on the left can be clearly seen.

Granite outcrop above Sandy Hole Pass on the East Dart river, Dartmoor

Sold Oil painting 40 X 20 inches

A long title, but this imposing outcrop of granite does not have the title of a Tor as it is found only a few feet above the flank of the East Dart River in the heart of the north Moor just above Sandy Hole Pass.

The wildness of this spot hides an industrial past. Tin was mined here in Tudor times causing great upheaval to the landscape and river. Evidence remains all around.

I have tried to capture the brooding change of weather with rain clouds gathering over Flat Tor & Cut Hill in the distance, while a solitary sheep gives scale to the massive granite boulders in the foreground.
